About SteelWeight.in
SteelWeight.in is a free set of steel weight calculators and charts made for people who work with steel in India: fabricators, civil engineers, contractors, steel traders and students.
Every calculator uses the standard steel density of 7.85 g/cm³ and published Indian Standard sizes such as IS 1786 for TMT bars, IS 1239 for MS pipes and IS 808 for angles and channels. Each page shows its formula so you can check the numbers yourself.
Our weights are theoretical. Real steel can weigh slightly more or less because of rolling tolerance, so please confirm billing weight with your supplier.

How We Check Our Numbers
- Sizes come from Indian Standards. TMT bars from IS 1786, pipes from IS 1239, hollow sections from IS 4923, angles, channels and beams from IS 808, plates and sheets from IS 1730 / IS 2062.
- Weights are calculated, not copied. Every value is worked out from the cross-section area and the density of steel (7,850 kg/m³), and the formula is shown on the page so you can check it.
- Published values are used where the standard lists them. For TMT bars, ISMC channels and ISMB beams we show the IS listed weight, and explain when the formula gives a slightly different answer.
- Every calculator is tested against the charts before a page goes live.
- Corrections are welcome. If you find a number that does not match your mill certificate or the standard, tell us and we will check and update it.
Who Uses SteelWeight.in
Fabricators preparing quotations, civil engineers estimating steel for a structure, contractors ordering TMT bars, steel traders converting pieces to tonnes, and engineering students learning the formulas.
