"GI approx." adds a hot-dip zinc coating of about 500 g/m² on all four faces. Actual coating depends on the galvanising standard and the supplier.
GI Flat Weight Formula
Zinc (kg/m) = 2 × (Width + Thickness) ÷ 1000 × coating (kg/m²). Example: a 25 × 3 mm GI flat: 25 × 3 × 0.00785 = 0.589 kg/m, plus 0.028 kg/m of zinc = about 0.617 kg/m.
GI Earthing Strip Weight
The most common earthing strips are 25 × 3, 25 × 5, 32 × 6 and 50 × 6 mm. To find how much strip you need, divide the total weight by kg per meter, or use the "meters per kg" column.
